Legislators endorsed Patton administration restrictions yesterday on air pollution from two dozen new power plants in Kentucky, a decision that might keep some of the plants from being built.
At issue were new federal limits on a key component of summer smog, and how much of Kentucky's statewide limit would be allocated to new electric generators -- 24 of which have applied for construction permits. The state is already behind schedule in adopting regulations to implement the new federal limits, and has been put on notice by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that it must act.
