Dear Clean Money Supporters,
Please try to attend the legislative hearing on partial public funding of gubernatorial races and/or the Press Conference in Frankfort on Monday! The House Appropriations & Revenue Committee wil be discussing public funding of gubernatorial races in the Capitol Annex Room 129 on Monday, April 29 at 2 PM. That hearing will be followed by a Press Conference in support of keeping partial public funding for gubernatorial races in the budget, at 3 p.m. in the same location.
The legislature is in special session to pass a budget. The main issue under debate is the Senate's attempt to drop partial public funding of the gubernatorial race. This legislation was passed in 1992 in response to excesses of spending in the previous race. At $9 million, it constitutes only 1/20th of one percent of the $15 billion budget. Holding the budget up is not the proper place to change this program. Clean Money Kentucky supports funding the current system, and holding hearings during the interim and in the 2003 regular session to propose improvements.
