« Latest News
The Pine Creek Reforestation Project on the Daniel Boone National Forest (which touches Laurel, Pulaski, and Rockcastle Counties). According to Kentucky Heartwood, the project "proposes up to of 4,000 acres of commercial logging in addition to prescribed fire, pine plantings, non-commercial thinning of forests that were clearcut in the 1980s and 1990s, and other management activities. "

In September 2019, Kentucky Heartwood developed comments for the Environmental Assessment of this project, comments which the Kentucky Resources Council was honored to support and sign.

These comments address: the young and old growth, threatened and endangered bat species, impacts to rare plants, impacts to the geographically restricted small tree called Stewartia ovata, road closures, Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, and the use of inadequate survey data.

These comments can be read in full here.
